pH sensors must be calibrated on a regular interval to provide an accurate reading. Follow the steps below to calibrate the sensor while it's connected to a Consibio Logger.
Preparation
First, make sure you have the needed materials:
- Deionized water to rinse the probe.
- Calibration buffer solutions with pH 4.0
- Calibration buffer solutions with pH 7.0
Next, you need to make sure the Logger is providing constant power to the sensor.
During normal operation, the Logger will power the sensor up and down with every measurement to preserve battery, but this will interfere with the calibration procedure. To prevent this, set the Logger into the correct configuration:
- Set transmission interval to 0 seconds in Consibio Cloud and save the configuration:
- Restart the Logger to ensure that the new setting will be synchronized to the device immediately. Press the "Restart" button shortly to force a restart and immediate connection:
- Wait until the new configuration has been synchronized to the device. This can take a couple of minutes.
- After this, wait at least 10 minutes for the sensor to stabilize
Calibration
- First, clean the sensor carefully in deionized water. Dry the electrode with a soft cloth (be sure to use a cloth that will not leave scratches on the surface of the electrode).
- Submerge in calibration fluid with pH 7. Turn the calibration ring to the "7" indicator position.
- The sensor will begin to blink 3 times every 5th seconds.
- Wait until the sensor blinks 2 times every 5th seconds. Now the first calibration value is saved.
- Take the sensor out of the buffer solution and dry the electrode with a soft cloth.
- Turn the calibration ring from the "7" to the "4" indicator position. Submerge in calibration fluid with pH 4.
- The sensor will begin to blink 3 times every 5th seconds.
- Wait until the sensor blinks 2 times every 5th seconds. Now the second calibration value is saved.
- Turn the calibration ring to the "Measure" indicator position.
The sensor is now calibrated. Be sure to set the transmission interval back to the desired value when done:
