Consibio Loggers come with a highly optimized internal antenna that almost always gets the job done. In most cases, the Logger can be deployed even in manholes under cast iron lids and still connect without any issues.
However, in some very remote or poor coverage areas, an external antenna is needed to provide a reliable connection. The traffic rated external antenna can be mounted on top of a manhole cover or other structures to ensure connectivity in these scenarios.
Below is step-by-step guide to mount and install the external antenna.
Disconnect batteries and internal antenna
Open the Logger and disconnect the batteries:
Disconnect the internal antenna and take it out:
Prepare manhole cover
Drill a 10mm-12mm hole in the manhole cover:
Pull the antenna cord through the hole and move the enclosure such that the cord length above the cover is as short as possible:
Mount external antenna on manhole cover
Lay the cover flat and drill a hole for the first mount bolt:
Put the first bolt through the hole:
Drill the hole for the second bolt with the enclosure partly mounted to ensure correct spacing:
Mount the second bolt:
Attach antenna to Logger
Take the blanking plug out of the large cable gland in the upper right corner of the Logger’s Peli case and pull the antenna cord through the gland:
Attach the gland on the mounting point on the antenna cable with increased thickness. Tighten the cable gland by hand. Attach the antenna SMA connector on the Logger inside the Peli case. Tighten it as much as possible by hand:
Reattach the batteries and close the Logger and Peli case:
